Al-Ameen College Students meet with the Governor-General

Students at Al-Ameen College were delighted to have the opportunity to meet with the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia,

His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (retd) and Mrs Hurley in Perth. This was an historic visit representing the first time a sitting Governor-General had visited the Perth Community.

Iman Haddad, a Year 8 student at Al-Ameen College, was invited to open the event with the surah al Hujurat.

The visit was hosted by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) President, Dr Rateb Jneid, who is also a member of the Al-Ameen College Board of Governors. His Excellency met with Dr Jneid and other community leaders in a private session before attending the Perth Mosque for a public gathering.

During this speech, His Excellency commented about the importance of faith in our society and his own experiences with Muslims and Islam, and his respect for our religion. During the event, students had an opportunity to discuss these matters with the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley further as they walked through the Mosque and its grounds.
